After 19 students of Jamiul Huda Madrasa were questioned by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) team investigating the ABT module in Morigaon on July 31, 2022, Assam police and central agencies questioned the head of the madrasa, Mufti Mustafa, who along with another suspect, is in custody.
“So far, the investigation has been satisfactory. There is a common link with the Bhopal ABT, Tripura and Barpeta operations of Ansar Ul Bangla. Financial links have been established. “Mustafa shared these videos, which have Taliban operation and training content to motivate students in his madrasa. We are also looking at other madrasas in the state, but it will be difficult to disclose more,” Singh said.
He also said police have other madrasas on radar and once evidence against them is found, action will be taken.
The Jamiul Madrasa was sealed with another at Dhing in the Nagaon district of Assam for engaging in anti-national activities. A certain Hananul Islam was arrested by Barpeta police on July 31, 2022 on suspicion of having links with the ABT. With that, there have been nine arrests in Barpeta district alone in the past four days.
According to Morigaon Police, Bangladeshi nationals have been visiting Mufti Mustafa’s house since 2019.
