Arsenal icon makes bold statement to Thomas Tuchel amid Chelsea manager’s Man United link

Former Arsenal icon Emmanuel Petit has admitted he still doesn’t understand Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel’s tactical decisions amid the ongoing debate over the Premier League’s best manager involving Jurgen Klopp and Pep Guardiola. The ex-midfielder also claimed Tuchel wouldn’t be able to handle the pressure if he moved to Old Trafford to take over Manchester United amid recent links with the club.

During his tenure in charge of the West Londoners, Tuchel has already won trophies and is currently leading the club through choppy waters during the uncertainty surrounding the takeover. His flawless run to almost every final he has entered under his reins so far shows how well the current Blues squad have adapted and embraced his methods, and despite some issues, such as form of Romelu Lukaku, unlike many recent Chelsea. coaches, he has so far managed to keep the players on his side.

With a Champions League title and a FIFA Club World Cup trophy to their name, it was no surprise to see Man United linked with a move amid uncertainty at Stamford Bridge. However, it looks like they will now move for Erik ten Hag or Mauricio Pochettino. While Petit concedes Tuchel has done well at Chelsea, he says the boss wouldn’t be able to handle the pressure at Old Trafford.

“His time at Chelsea started brilliantly with the Champions League victory,” Petit told “I think he’s a very good manager, but sometimes tactically you don’t understand what he’s doing because against Brentford I didn’t understand his tactics.

“You can see he has problems with certain players and that’s normal in the dressing room during the season, but when it happens [with Tuchel] there are weeks and months left between the players. Can someone explain to me what is going on between Tuchel and Romelu Lukaku? I don’t understand it.

“Tuchel could go to Manchester United, but when things start to be difficult, you see that he changes. He sometimes finds it difficult to handle the pressure. With Manchester United, the pressure would be higher there than at Chelsea.

“It could be an option, but I’m not really convinced by it. Manchester United need someone who can unite the dressing room and I’m not sure Tuchel is a better manager to maximize and get a different mentality in this locker room.”
