Channel 4’s Hullraisers is about to air and although it’s already a Yorkshire special, it also has a hidden link to Leeds.
Hullraisers follows the ups and downs of three Hull women and stars Leah Brotherhead, Taj Atwal and Sinead Matthews. Focusing on best friends Toni, Rana and Paula, the episodes are half an hour long and there are six, which will see viewers share in the characters’ “disheveled, messy and joyful lives”.
Audiences will be delighted to know that filming took place in Hull with a Yorkshire crew, but was also filmed in Leeds.

As filming took place over the summer, cameras were spotted in both towns and in Hull there were confirmed reports of filming at the Silver Cod pub in Anlaby Road; Larkin’s Bar, Newland Avenue, and Le Crepier Papin, also on Newland Avenue.
In Leeds, scenes are believed to have been filmed at Headingly on Otley Road. Local shop My Style Therapy has told customers to keep their eyes peeled as they expect to be seen on screen tonight.
Hull writer and comedian Lucy Beaufort, speaking to What To Watch, shared: ‘It was filmed with a crew based in Hull and Leeds which I enjoyed so much. You hear about things saying they’re based in the North, and then you look up and it’s like, no, they’re not! Everyone came from London to do it.
“I was really proud that they could [film here]. And some of the crew, it was their first job. So this gave them a head start in the industry.
Channel 4 editor Jack Bayles said of the show: “It’s a show with a huge heart and a joke rate to match the thrill. Led by a trio of wonderfully drawn female characters, we really hope viewers fall in love with them as much as we did through the scripts.
