Google is bringing its bright red warning banners in Chat to guard against invitations containing potential phishing and malware links.
The red banner, but more specifically a background sheet, will appear on invitations “from users with personal Google accounts”. Appearing in Chat mobile and desktop web clients, you can “Block” or “Accept anyway”.

This conversation contains links to known phishing sites that may try to steal your information
These warnings match those available in Gmail, Google Drive and soon Docs, Sheets and Slides for suspicious links.
In Gmail, warning banners appear when you reply to emails sent from outside your organization. Now Android warning banners are also displayed when you add new external recipients. Administrators can enable or disable these specific warning labels for their organization.
These Google Chat warning banners will be rolling out starting today and will be fully launched in the coming weeks:
- Available to all Google Workspace customers, plus legacy G Suite Basic and Business customers
- Available to users with personal Google Accounts
