There is no doubt that ICT Tac is one of the most popular social media platforms on the planet. For starters, the platform sees over a billion active users each month, according to Reuters. People join for entertainment, creative expression, or sometimes to connect with like-minded people. For some, it is even a form of business. No matter how or why you use TikTok, you’ve probably seen or wondered at some point how to add a link to your profile.
TikTok users may want to add a link to their profile for several reasons. If you use TikTok for business purposes and have a website or online store, adding a link to your TikTok profile can be a handy way to drive traffic to your site and increase sales. (who wouldn’t)? You can also use the link in your TikTok profile to promote special offers or discounts.
But wait, there is a catch!
As of January 20, 2022, only users with 1,000 or more followers can add a link to their bios. Whether or not you upgrade to a business account (which used to be the way to add a link to your profile), you won’t see the “Add your website” feature when editing your profile.
This was obviously a bummer for many TikTok users, especially those just starting out or looking to grow their business, but that doesn’t mean there’s no more hope. You can always add a non-clickable link to your bio. Naturally a clickable link is better, but at least it lets your subscribers know there’s more information waiting on the other side of that link, and they can always copy and paste it into a browser .
The other option is to make sure your other social media accounts are linked to your TikTok. You can do this by going to your “Profile” and tapping on “Edit Profile” under your photo. At the bottom of the screen, you will see the option to add your Instagram and YouTube IDs. Instagram and YouTube make it very easy to include clickable links in your bio.
For those with over 1,000 followers who want to add a link to your bio, follow the steps below:
First, switch your profile to a professional account
To add a link to your bio, you must first switch your profile to a business account. This not only gives you insight into behind-the-scenes information about your video performances, but also gives you access to a plethora of royalty-free sounds. And it even gives you updates on new upcoming business features before they arrive. To start:
- Go to your “Profile” by clicking on the “Profile” icon in the lower right corner of the screen.
- Tap the three lines in the right corner of the screen. A pop-up window will appear with two options. Click on “Settings and privacy”.
- Tap “Manage Account” at the top of the screen.
- Tap “Switch to Business Account”.
- The next page lists a bunch of great features you get when you upgrade to a pro account. If you’re ready to go, tap “Next.”
- Next, you’ll be asked to choose a category that best describes what your account is about or how you plan to use it. These may include, but are not limited to, ‘Arts and Crafts’, ‘Beauty’, ‘Personal Blog’ or ‘Media and Entertainment’.
Ta-da! You have a professional account!
Now that you have a business account, you can start adding new features to your profile, such as adding a link. Go back to your “Profile” and tap on “Edit Profile”, which is below the profile picture.
Under your ‘Name’, ‘Username’ and ‘Bio’ you will see ‘Website’. This is where you can add your clickable link. Be sure to hit “Save” when you’re done.
There! You now have a link in your profile. We hope you are ready for the extra traffic.
