Reading FC star John Swift has already been the subject of much transfer speculation ahead of the January transfer window.
The playmaker, now in his sixth season with the Royals, has been in superb form during the first half of the season.
Swift has eight goals and nine assists under his belt for Veljko Paunovic’s side, making him one of the hottest properties outside of the Premier League.

But will he remain a Royal until the end of the season at least? And if not what will be his next move?
Here is a summary of the speculation as it stands:
What is its contractual status?
Swift’s reading contract expires Thursday, June 30, 2022.
This means he can be signed for a fee in the January transfer window or for free at the end of the season, provided he doesn’t sign a new contract at Reading.
As he is now in the last six months of his contract, he is also free to sign a pre-contract agreement with a foreign club.
Is Reading likely to sell?
Despite the need to balance the books, Reading is highly unlikely to sell Swift in January.
The player was the most outstanding player in the first half of the season and a mid-season start would leave a gaping hole in the side.
Owner Dai Yongge also has a tendency to withhold players at all costs and it would surely take a huge bid to pull Swift out in the middle of the campaign.
Will he sign a new reading contract?
The simple answer is no, because it is highly unlikely that they will be offered one.
This is due to Reading’s precarious financial situation and the need to drastically reduce the payroll over the next 18 months.

What is the player’s position?
Swift is happy and has moved to Reading, the club that has really given him a platform to launch his career.
In an ideal world, he may have extended his stay in Berkshire but the feeling is that after six years, summer will be the right time for a new challenge elsewhere.
It is understood that he would like to test himself at Premier League level.
Which clubs are interested in him?
Leeds United have always been linked with a Swift move in recent weeks, although it is understood that this is just speculation.
Whites boss Marcelo Bielsa has already expressed his admiration for the midfielder, but that’s it.
Inquiries from Elland Road can best be described as “tendered”.
Three other Premier League sides are said to keep an eye on his situation, while Brentford and Newcastle United have been flagged as potential destinations in the past.
It is also understood that clubs in Germany, Turkey and Saudi Arabia are following him as well.
