Library link: February brings yoga and the heart to the Airdrie Public Library

There are a host of events and programs at the Airdrie Public Library in February, for patrons of all ages.

The song “February Brings the Rain”, popularized by American singer and actress Julie London, is often heard on the radio around Valentine’s Day.

Although it’s sung in her signature sultry, contralto voice, it’s February after all in Alberta, and it probably won’t be raining.

However, at the Airdrie Public Library (APL), February brings a host of programs almost as refreshing as a nice rain (a rain in summer, of course).

In addition to our regular after-school and pre-school programs, we are thrilled to introduce our first-ever yoga class. Called Chair Yoga, held in partnership with Oranj Fitness on February 7 at 7 p.m., participants can spend an hour on Zoom with an instructor exploring stretches and movements that can be done while seated.

The Pages of Pride Book Club also meets that evening online at 7 p.m., where the Lumberjacks The comic book series created by Shannon Watters, Grace Ellis, Brooklyn A. Allen and Noelle Stevenson is the center of attention.

In other upcoming events, Design a Library – APL’s very cool 3D design program using Tinkercad – continues on February 8 and 15. soon the new library in Airdrie.

February also sees the return of ARTSaturday with local artist Jaye Benoit. On February 12, Benoit will present two virtual sessions, one for ages 7 to 13 at 1 p.m. and another for ages 14 and up at 7 p.m. Since the program is just days away from the annual celebration of love, classes will focus on a Valentine’s Day-themed artwork. Please note that there is a list of required but easily accessible items that participants will need to create their artwork.

Also watch for DIY Investing Fundamentals on February 17, presented by a Senior Advisor to the Alberta Securities Commission, and After Dark – Fort Night for Teens on February 19.
