The former Queens Park Rangers winger could make a big money move to St James’ Park this summer after Eddie Howe’s side reportedly fell through with a loan offer last month.
Crystal Palace winger Eberechi Eze is said to be happy at Selhurst Park despite recent reports linking him with a mega-money move to Newcastle United.
The former Queens Park Rangers player was touted as a potential summer target for Eddie Howe’s side earlier this week with a reported £45million.
It is also understood that United tried to sign the young England international on loan in January, but that fell through.
Here’s everything you need to know about Eberechi Eze, including what has been reported about the interest from Newcastle United:
Who is Eberechi Eze? Crystal Palace winger linked with £45m move to Newcastle United
Eberechi Eze is a 23-year-old attacking midfielder who plays for Newcastle United’s Premier League rivals Crystal Palace.
The Selhurst Park side signed the winger from fellow Londoner Queen’s Park Rangers in 2020 for a fee of around £17million.
Eze moved around a lot during his youth career and spent time with the academies of Arsenal, Reading, Fulham and Millwall before making his first appearance in senior football with QPR in the 2016/17 FA Cup.
The Greenwhich-born star then spent the first half of the 2-17/18 season on loan at Wycombe Wanderers before returning to Loftus Road and establishing himself in the first team.
He made a total of 112 appearances for the club during his time there and scored 12 goals.
In his first season with Crystal Palace, he made 34 Premier League appearances and scored four goals and played the full 90 minutes in both matches against Newcastle.
The 23-year-old suffered an Achilles tendon injury in May last year and missed the first three months of the season before making his first appearance in November.
He has made seven appearances for the Eagles this season, five in the Premier League and two in the FA Cup, but hasn’t found the back of the net.
Eze is an England youth international and has been capped at Under-20 and Under-21 level, but is also eligible to play for Nigeria.
What have been reported of Newcastle United’s interest in Eberechi Eze?
Earlier in the week, The Sun reported that Newcastle United were ready to offer £45million to sign Eberechi Eze from Crystal Palace this summer.
The same publication also claimed that United had offered the Eagles £5m in the January window to loan the player out for the rest of the season with a view to a £35m permanent in the summer.
However, this offer would have been categorically rejected by the London club which did not wish to sell the player during the campaign.
The claim that “regardless of any interest from St James’s Park, Eze is content with south London, where the club still see him as a key part of their future under Patrick Vieira’s management”.
