Nottingham Forest confirm pre-season plans as new transfer link emerges

Nottingham Forest have confirmed their pre-season plans as they prepare for their return to the Premier League.

Steve Cooper’s side secured their return to the top flight after a 23-year absence with victory over Huddersfield Town at Wembley last month. And their new campaign will kick off with a trip to Newcastle United on August 6.

Before that, the Reds will travel to Alicante, Spain for a pre-season training camp. They will end their trip with a match against Coventry City at the Pinatar Arena in San Pedro del Pinatar on Friday July 8.

Bound winger

Nottingham Forest are reportedly interested in Spain winger Ivan Alejo as they prepare for their return to the Premier League.

Taiwo Awoniyi became the Reds’ first signing of the summer transfer window this weekend. The striker signed a five-year deal as he left Union Berlin for a club-record fee.

There will be more arrivals in the coming weeks as boss Steve Cooper looks to bolster his squad for the build-up. And further bolstering his offensive resources will be key.

The Alejo de Cadiz is on Forest’s radar, according to the Spanish site Amarillo Channel. It is reported that “several clubs are knocking on his door”, Turkish team Galatasaray and another unnamed team are also said to be enthusiastic.

Henderson last

Another signing announcement might not be too far off for Nottingham Forest as they prepare for their return to the Premier League.

The Reds have made striker Taiwo Awoniyi their first addition to the transfer window this weekend. A club record was paid out for the striker as he signed a five-year contract with Union Berlin.

There will be more entries, as well as exits, in the coming weeks as boss Steve Cooper shapes his squad for the top flight. And that should include changes in the goalkeeping department.

Manchester United goalkeeper Dean Henderson is expected to follow Awoniyi in putting pen to paper at the City Ground. According to Manchester Evening News, he could be “redirected” directly to Forest when he returns from his honeymoon.

Collymore Tip

Nottingham Forest should make a move for Manchester United striker Anthony Martial, according to Stan Collymore.

Head coach Steve Cooper faces a crucial summer as the Reds prepare for their return to the Premier League. Taiwo Awoniyi’s arrival at the weekend marked the start of a busy few months for the Reds, before the transfer window closed at 11pm on September 1.

A club-record fee secured the signing of Awoniyi, on a five-year contract with Union Berlin. The 24-year-old’s move follows a season which saw him score 20 goals in 43 appearances for Germany.

However, further attacking reinforcements are likely on the cards as Forest aim to defend in the top flight. And while Collymore advises Awoniyi to make an impact at his former club, he believes Martial could also fit the bill at the City Ground, urging the Reds to come up with ‘a cheeky cheap loan offer’.
