Opening of the access ramp to the Heywood Expressway

A ‘game-changing’ motorway link road has been opened, its completion marking a major milestone for South Heywood’s master plan.

The new 2.2km road connects Junction 19 of the M62 motorway at Pilsworth Road in Heywood.

It is the first completed element of South Heywood’s 316 acre master plan which is being presented by regional property and building group Russells.

It supports the development of over 1.45 million square feet of new employment space at the new 120-acre HPARK logistics and manufacturing site in Russells, located next to the new link road. It is expected to launch in the new year and has the potential to create up to 2,800 new jobs.

It also opens the possibility of creating 1,000 new houses, a new local center with a primary school, a park, shops and sports facilities. Russell Homes, Bellway and Anwyl are all progressing on residential sites and construction of the first homes in the new West Hopwood community has recently begun.

The Russells team has been working on the master plan for over a decade, bringing together the land, financial, public and private partnerships needed to move the program forward over a 20-year period.

Gareth Russell, Co-Chief Executive, said: “The opening of the link road is an important milestone for everyone involved in delivering this transformative economic regeneration agenda, and is a testament to what working in partnership can do. accomplish.

“This is key to unlocking South Heywood’s economic potential, making the location more accessible and attractive for businesses to invest and create new jobs in the area, and will help reduce carbon emissions in the borough by Immediately cutting hundreds of thousands of hours from commuting, which will benefit residents and businesses alike.”
