The latest cable system will increase the country’s data capacity and advance its digital infrastructure while boosting its economic growth.
PLDT has activated the country’s link with the latest international submarine cable with some of the largest companies in the country’s major industries, key government officials and diplomatic partners.
“The PLDT Group is proud to lead the digital advancement of our country, made possible through dynamic synergies with government and private sector partners,” said Alfredo S. Panlilio, President and CEO of PLDT and Smart. .
The 14,000 km Jupiter Cable system is the newest international gateway linking the Philippines directly from PLDT’s cable landing station to Daet, Camarines Norte, Japan and the West Coast of the United States.
Jupiter will triple PLDT’s international capacity to around 60 terabits per second, and the company says this reaffirms its commitment to the country’s digital capabilities in the future.
This, coupled with “robust ICT capabilities” and available local data center infrastructure, will help promote the Philippines to global hyperscalers and position the country as a new digital hub in Asia-Pacific.
“This step greatly reinforces our commitment to help position the Philippines as Asia-Pacific’s next hyperscaler hub and enrich the country’s hyperscale ecosystem,” said Jojo G. Gendrano, PLDT and Smart FVP and Head of business group.
“It will also allow us to increase the international capacity of our data centers – now a major component of the country’s digital ecosystem – and strengthen the country’s attractiveness as an investment destination.
“Our network of VITRO data centers, with our newest to be built in Sta. Rosa, prepares the country to serve and drive this burgeoning industry.”
