Reporter drops interesting Morelos claim at Rangers after big exit link this month

Journalist Pete O’Rourke thinks Rangers will seek to keep their talisman Alfredo Morelos this transfer window.

The 25-year-old has been linked with a move to the Premier League, with a host of top English clubs reportedly interested in him.

What is the latest news about Morelos?

At the beginning of the month, CBS Sports reported that Newcastle United, Everton and Leicester City are all considering swooping in for Morelos in this transfer window.

In the same report, a fee of $27m (£19.7m) was mooted, which is a lot of money but for Rangers the Colombian striker will be worth it, if not more.

This season he scored 13 goals in all competitions for the Gers. Manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst obviously won’t want to lose that, especially mid-campaign.

Rangers hold the advantage at the top of the Scottish Premiership table right now, so the last thing the Dutchman will want is a huge outing that would weaken his team.

What did O’Rourke say about Morelos and the Rangers?

Ultimately, given that they are in a real title chase, O’Rourke believes Rangers will be looking to retain their star striker this month.

The transfer insider told GIVEMESPORT: “I think they will look to keep Morelos to try and help them retain the Scottish Premier League title, which will come with Champions League football next season, which will be huge for whoever wins the Scottish Premiership. ”

Should Rangers consider cashing in on Morelos?

As already mentioned, £19m is a lot of money for a Scottish team to receive for a player. Rangers, of course, also paid fair £1 million for Morelos in 2017, so they can have the chance to make a big profit here.

Still, selling Morelos now is too risky. The winter transfer window is so short; the Glasgow club could struggle to find a suitable replacement and failure to do so could end up costing them dearly in the title race.

With the Colombia international’s contract ending in the summer 2023, you can understand why the Rangers hierarchy would sanction a sale this month. This could be their last chance to collect the kind of money that has been mentioned.

However, there are still two transfer windows before that, so the opportunity to collect a decent fee and make a profit will still be there. Also, don’t rush to sell Morelos.
