The link between Black Dam roundabout and the M3 is now open after a lorry overturned

The southbound road on the link between Black Dam Roundabout and the M3 at Junction 6 is now open after an overturned lorry was recovered.

Heavy traffic has been building up in the area, with delays on Ringway East from the A33 Reading Road yesterday (April 26).

AA Traffic news said an incident involving an “overturned truck” prompted the closure, while drivers reported queues and a heavy presence of emergency services.

Hampshire Police have now confirmed the road is open.

A spokesperson said: ‘Just a quick update for you that the M3 between the Black Dam roundabout in Basingstoke and Junction 6, which has been closed overnight for the recovery of an overturned lorry, reopened earlier today.

“The road is now fully open as usual – thank you very much for your patience while we process this incident.”

The incident was first reported by the traffic update site at 4.44pm on Tuesday, but members of a Hampshire Drivers Facebook group said the situation for commuters “worsened” throughout throughout the evening.

One described the delays on surrounding roads as “chaos” while others said it would “take hours to clear”.

Basingstoke Police have asked people to avoid the area and warned of further disruption as they resume.

In a Tweet, they wrote: “We ask motorists to avoid the Black Dam roundabout this evening if possible.

“A HGV rolled over this afternoon and partially blocked the exit leading to the M3.

“Further road closures around the roundabout are likely this evening when the truck is collected.”
