Texas A&M University-San Antonio has partnered with VIA Metropolitan Transit, which is San Antonio’s public transportation system, to create two programs that allow students to access free transportation with a valid student/staff card.
The U-Pass program offers unlimited rides to students each semester.
The VIA Link programthat operates similarly to Uber in a local service area, will operate seven days a week, from 5:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m.
Lorraine Pulido, Director of Communications for VIA Metropolitan Transit, explained the success of VIA Link since its launch.
“We have seen a very successful early adoption of VIA Link’s Southern Zone service, with over 1,600 passengers using the service since its launch on August 8,” she said.
VIA Link is similar to Uber and Lyft, but Pulido believes VIA Link offers more benefits for students, faculty, and staff.
“VIA Link’s app-based vanpooling service offers better frequency, additional hours of operation and improved access to convenient ride options with the same fairs and discounts as the bus service,” said she declared.
Pulido said the last day for the old bus line is October 23 and will be replaced by the current system.
