WhatsApp releases rich link previews for text status updates to some beta testers

WhatsApp is releasing rich link previews for text status updates to some beta testers. The Meta-owned instant messaging app is rolling out the new update through Google Play’s beta program, bringing the version to, WABetaInfo reported.

The app redraws the UI when sharing a link as a text status update. The feature was under development…until today. In fact, thanks to the recent WhatsApp for Android beta update, some beta testers are now able to post rich links to status updates!” the website wrote.

WABetaInfo also shared a screenshot of the feature. To check if the new update is available on your WhatsApp account, try sending a link to your status update. If the rich preview is generated, it means the update is available on your account, reported the website that tracks the latest WhatsApp updates. WhatsApp for Android Beta is marked as compatible update.

The instant messaging app has now only released the feature for select beta testers. It will be rolling out “Rich Link Previews for Text Status Updates” to further beta testing over the coming weeks.

WhatsApp is also reportedly working on the “Kept Messages” feature. A kept message is a message that disappears and is temporarily converted to a standard WhatsApp message after it expires. The update can be seen in chat information in a new section. Anyone in a conversation can open these messages.
